OUR INITIATIVES

SPOTLIGHT ON SAMBURU NOMADIC SCHOOL

The Samburu nomadic school initiative started in 2018 with a community engagement programme to pilot transferable Montessori schools in the Namunyak Conservancy area, in Northern Kenya.

The Samburu Montessori school has continued to thrive and demonstrate a marked improvement in quality of teaching. The children within the settlement areas of Ntaparani and Tintil now attend school on regular basis and there is huge community support for the two schools.

CORNER OF HOPE

The Corner of Hope is a pilot initiative to show how Montessori Teacher Training and Schools can be delivered to the most vulnerable communities such as those in refugee, transit and IDP Camps.

Its aim is self-reliance not dependence, community not school. Self ownership and control, dignity and self worth which all play an important role in overcoming the effects of trauma experienced by the inhabitants of the camps.

MONTESSORI FOR DEMENTIA AND AGEING

Montessori for Dementia and Ageing is a life-changing, approach to caring for people living with dementia. It promotes the principles of dignity, respect and independence for an active, meaningful life.

Using core Montessori principles, we can equip caregivers with the skills to create a more purposeful, independent life for people living with dementia.

THE WORK WE SUPPORT

UNITED KINGDOM

BORN INSIDE

In the United Kingdom approximately two babies per week are “born inside” to mothers in the prison system.

For the past five years we have been supporting the Maria Montessori Institute, which has been working with mothers and babies in Holloway and Bronzefield prisons, as well as with the pregnant women who may not be awarded a place in the mother and baby unit.
